Fake Snow

Two ounces of iridescent, sparkling snow to sprinkle over the glue on the windowsill, then shake off.

Craft Sticks

Sixty natural wood sticks, 8 inches long, for the window frame and the cross panes.

Tempera Paint Sticks

Twelve quick-drying, washable tempera sticks, used here to paint some of the craft sticks white.

Silver Puff Paint

A four-ounce bottle of metallic silver puff paint that dries raised, for tracing the menorah.

Dark Blue Cardstock Paper

Twenty sheets of thick navy blue cardstock for the night sky behind the window.

Bottle of Elmer's clear washable school glue

Elmer's Glue

A five-ounce bottle of washable clear school glue for the sticks, the border and the snow.

Instructions

Eight steps, one window.

Paint and trace first, glue the frame and the panes next, and save the snow for the very end.

Cut black or dark blue construction paper into a square with sides the size of popsicle sticks.

Paint some popsicle sticks white with tempera paint sticks

Trace a menorah at the bottom left side of the paper.

Use silver glitter puff paint to make a silver menorah. Let it dry.

Glue popsicle sticks around the border of the construction paper.

Place a popsicle stick horizontally across the center of the page & another one vertically, to create window panes.

Smear some glue randomly on different spots on the windowsill, with a large amount on the bottom.

Sprinkle fake snow over the glue, then shake it off.

The practical bits

What are the sticks for?

They are the window. Sticks glued around the edge make the frame, and one across and one down make the panes, so the silver menorah looks as if it sits on a real windowsill.

Little hands can paint the sticks and sprinkle the snow; a grown-up can cut the paper and help trace the menorah.

Most of it is waiting for the silver puff paint to dry before the sticks go on.
