Thin blue beeswax tapers, soft enough to twist once warmed in water and a good base colour for the twist.

White Beeswax Candles

White beeswax tapers to twist in with the colours, so the finished candle has a bright stripe.

Instructions

Four steps, one twisted candle.

Warm the wax in hot water first, then shape the candles while they are soft.

Have an adult prepare a container of hot water (100 F)

Place the candles you want to start with in the water

After 10-15 minutes, the adult can check if the wax is soft yet and remove the candles

Start shaping molding the candles to any shape you want! You can Twist the candles together Flatten an entire candle with a clay roller and twist it Twist a single candle around a stick to create a "curly" candle.

The practical bits

Why warm the candles in water?

Beeswax is firm at room temperature and softens in warm water, so after 10 to 15 minutes the candles can be twisted, flattened or curled without breaking.

Ages

6‑10

Kids do the shaping; a grown-up prepares the hot water and checks that the wax is soft.

Time

30 minutes

Most of it is the wait while the candles soften, then a few minutes of shaping.

Can we light them?

Yes, they are real beeswax candles, so a grown-up should light them. Let the wax cool and set fully first, burn them on a heatproof holder, and never leave them burning unattended.
