Hanging greenery questions
How do you hang decorations without touching the schach?
Work off the frame. Command hooks, cable ties and clips along the top rail hold garlands and vines without anything being fixed to the schach or hanging from it. This is also simply more practical — frame-mounted decorations survive wind, and anything pinned into schach comes down with it.
How many garlands do I need to fill a sukkah wall?
For a standard 8-by-10 sukkah, three to four strands per long wall reads as full rather than sparse. Run them horizontally along the top and let a few trail down the corners. Mixing two types — ivy plus a fruit garland, say — looks fuller than twice as much of one thing.
Will artificial flowers and greenery fade outdoors?
Over a single week, no. Over years of storage and reuse, color holds well if you keep them out of direct sun when stored and pack them loosely rather than crushed. Fold garlands into a box rather than compressing them into a bag, and they come out next year still looking the part.
What holds up best if it rains?
Artificial greenery and vines shed water and dry quickly, which is exactly why they beat fresh flowers for a week outdoors. Shake off standing water after a storm so nothing sits soaked against a wall, and let everything dry completely before it goes back in the box.
