Do portable sinks need plumbing?
No, and that is the point. The freestanding and foot-pump models on this page hold their own water in a tank and drain into a second tank or a bucket underneath — you fill and empty them by hand. One model connects to a garden hose if you have a tap within reach, which saves the refilling.
Where should the sink go for netilas yadayim?
Just outside the sukkah entrance or immediately inside it, wherever the queue will not block the door. Standing it on a hard surface or on flooring matters — the ground under a hand-wash station turns to mud fast, especially with children using it.
How much water does a portable sink hold?
Tanks on this page run to about 20 gallons, which comfortably covers a meal for a family with guests. For a large crowd, plan to refill between courses, and keep a filled jug in the sukkah so nobody has to go inside mid-meal.
Is a serving cart worth it for one week a year?
If your kitchen is more than a few steps from the sukkah, yes. A rolling cart moves an entire course in one trip instead of four, and the shelves double as somewhere to put serving dishes down — which in a full sukkah is the scarcest thing there is. It also folds away and gets used for Pesach and every other Yom Tov.
