Sukkah table and chair questions
What size table fits in a sukkah?
Measure the sukkah first, then subtract. You want at least two feet of clearance behind each seat so people can get in and out without everyone standing up. A 6-foot folding table generally seats six to eight and needs a sukkah of about 8 by 10 feet to sit comfortably around.
Can I leave the table and chairs out in the rain?
Plastic and coated-metal folding furniture handles rain far better than wood, which swells and warps. Even so, wipe surfaces down after a storm and fold flat anything you are not about to use. The realistic plan for a week outdoors is to expect them to get wet and to choose furniture that does not mind.
How do I seat extra guests in a small sukkah?
Stackable chairs and a folding side table are the answer — bring them out for the meal and stack them against the wall between meals. A narrow side table also does double duty for candle lighting and serving, which keeps the main table clear.
What's the best way to store sukkah furniture for the year?
Fold everything flat, make sure it is completely dry, and store it upright against a wall rather than stacked under heavy boxes. Folding legs bend if something heavy sits on them for eleven months, and that bend is always discovered on Erev Sukkos.
