Wall sculpture questions
Are metal wall sculptures too heavy for a sukkah wall?
They are lighter than they look, but a canvas or vinyl sukkah wall will not carry them — hang from the frame rather than the wall panel itself. On a wooden sukkah, a screw or hook into the frame takes the weight easily. Check each piece's listed weight before deciding where it goes.
Will they rust if it rains?
Galvanized and coated garden metalwork is made to live outdoors and handles a week of rain without complaint. Dry pieces before storing them, and keep them somewhere dry over the year — rust comes from eleven months in a damp garage far more often than from seven days in the sukkah.
How do I arrange wall sculptures so they look intentional?
Pick one large piece as the anchor, then group two or three smaller ones to one side of it at varying heights, rather than spacing everything evenly in a row. Odd numbers group better than even. Standing back after each piece goes up saves a lot of rehanging.
Do they work with posters and tapestries on the same wall?
Yes, if the sculptures get their own space. The usual mistake is layering metalwork on top of a busy print, where both get lost. Give the tapestry one wall and the sculptures another, or hang sculptures on the frame between two posters so each has room to read.
